Staying organized as a business owner
A practical system for to-dos, calendar, reminders and focus, so nothing falls through the cracks.
Being organized is not about being naturally tidy. It is about having a simple system you trust, so your mind can focus on the work in front of you instead of trying to remember everything.
Let all things be done decently and in order. (1 Corinthians 14:40, KJV)
One place for tasks Every task goes into one list, not scattered across notes, texts and memory. Use your Command Center to-dos: give each one a date if it has one, a priority if it matters, and a reminder if you might forget.
One calendar for time Anything with a time goes on the calendar with a reminder. Add your faith, family and health commitments too, not just work. If it is not on the calendar, it will be squeezed out.
A daily start (5 minutes) - Read your grounding note and pray. - Name your one big decision today. - Pick the three to-dos that matter most. - Check today's agenda.
Focus in blocks Use the focus timer: 25 or 50 minutes on one task, then a short break. Silence notifications during a block. Most work goes faster without interruptions.
A daily close (5 minutes) - Tick off what is done. - Move what is not done to a new date, honestly. - Look at tomorrow's calendar.
A weekly review Use the weekly owner's review checklist every week. It is the habit that holds the whole system together.
Number your days So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. (Psalm 90:12, KJV)
Time is the one resource you cannot get back. A good system is a way of stewarding it well.
