A gathering worth coming to

A host’s checklist for small gatherings that feel warm, organized and worth the drive.

People rarely remember the venue. They remember whether someone said hello, whether they met one new person, and whether it started and ended when you said it would.

A week before - Confirm the place, the time and how many people it seats. - Write a one-line description that tells people exactly what will happen. - Ask one friend to help you welcome people at the door.

On the day - Arrive fifteen minutes early. - Greet every person by name, and introduce them to someone. - Have one good question ready to get the table talking. - Start on time, even if the room is not full.

Within two days - Send a short thank-you note. - Share the date of the next gathering while people still remember this one. - Ask one guest what would make next time better.
